ICOM, ICOM A1, and Common ICOM A2 Firmware Update
Steps to Update Firmware
Connect ICOM:
Use a network cable to connect the ICOM device (ICOM A1 or Common version ICOM A2) to your computer.
Power the ICOM device with a 12V adapter or connect it to a BMW vehicle for power.
Open Internet Explorer:
Open Internet Explorer (IE).
Enter the URL: http://169.254.92.38:60080/.
Log in with the following credentials:
Username: root
Password: NZY11502.
Check Firmware Version:
Click on "Update Firmware" to view the current ICOM firmware version.
Update the System Image:
Select the file "ICOM-BootImage-xx-xx-xx.bin".
Set the Image Type to SYSTEM.
Click on "Send the file".
When prompted with the message "Write the image file to the flash?", click "Yes".
The ICOM indicator light will turn red during this process.
Once the process is complete, and the message "The SYSTEM IMAGE update was successful" appears, proceed to the next step.
Update the Application Image:
Select the file "ICOM-ApplicationImage-xx-xx-xx.bin".
Set the Image Type to APPLICATION.
Click on "Send the file".
This step may take several minutes as the file is larger.
When prompted with the message "Write the image file to the flash?", click "Yes".
The ICOM indicator light will turn red again during this process.
Reboot the ICOM Device:
Once the upgrade is complete, click "Reboot" to restart the ICOM device.
Important Notes
Set IP Address to Automatic:
Ensure your computer is configured to obtain an IP address automatically before starting the update process.
Firmware Update Order:
Always update the smaller file (ICOM-BootImage-xx-xx-xx.bin) first, setting the image type to SYSTEM.
Then update the larger file (ICOM-ApplicationImage-xx-xx-xx.bin), setting the image type to APPLICATION.
Alternate Update via ISTA-D:
Firmware updates can also be performed through the ISTA-D Connection Manager.
Use the following details for connection:
IP Address: 169.254.33.45:60080
Password: NZY1150263 (for ICOM A2).
